Instagram is the hottest social tool out there right now. It is visually based and can work in your favor if you know how to use it properly. Instagram can help you leverage your brand on top and increase your sales if you know what you are doing? Here are a few tips to make Instagram work for you!
Have your credentials up: Making sure you have your bio (The same bio you use for every social site) and a profile pic (The same profile pic used for every social site) is very important. It helps followers find you easily on every platform. Also, make sure you have a link to your website up there as well. Note. Only include your website URL if your site is 100% functional and up to date.
Be consistent: Consistency is key to gaining a following and putting your brand out there. Consistency comes in many forms for Instagram.
Images – Your images should all have the same filter or the same graphics. Whether you choose to do black and white photos, photos with colour pops or a white border around it. Keep it consistent!
Mood – Do your images carry the same mood. Are they informative, funny, happy, technical etc? Make sure you are telling a consistent story.
Posting – We can not stress enough to be consistent with your posts. Post regularly and daily. Create set post weeks in advance. For instance, we curate posts on a Sunday. So we make all our post for the week and post them using Latergramme. Frankly speaking, get into the habit of posting a few times daily. We post a minimum of 3 times a day, max 5 if we’re feeling frisky. Everyone has posting times that work for them. We like to post around 8:30 am, 11:40 ish, 3:00 pm & 6:45 ish if we post late. Again those times vary and we are stuck to those times. It's somewhere around there!
Call-to-action posts: Call-to-action posts will become your new best friend! Instruct your followers to go to the website or go to your blog. Post a tidbit on your Instagram and let your followers know to check the blog for the full story. You can ask your followers to comment below with their thoughts on your new logo or whatever it may be. Just require an action. Make them click the link in the bio or comment or share. Gain as much interaction as possible.
Your Instagram is a Mini Blog: Use your Instagram feed as a mini blog. Use it to tell a story and create beautiful mini posts to entice your readers. Remember, your readers have no idea what your post is supposed to represent. Tell them where you were of how this image became to be. Bring them into your world.
Personal vs Business: Keep your personal account separate from your business account. Also, don’t have your profile on private if you are promoting your business. It doesn’t make any sense. Keep your business page open for new and prospective clients to access. Keeping your personal account separate from your business account shows professionalism and also, it’s a respect to your privacy.
Following, Follow backs, Comments & Likes:
Following – Follow like-minded brands and follow influencers and media. Follow them to keep up to date on what they are doing.
Follow backs – Follow back people who follow you. Show your support and gratitude for their kind gesture.
Comment – Comment on images you like. Be sincere and real in your approach. Ask questions to gain more insight.
Like – Like images you truly like. Don’t just like for the sake of liking. Comment under a picture you really like as well to show your love and support.
Here is a small trick we PR folk like to use. At the end of each week, we go through each of our platforms and follow people who haven’t followed back. There are many different tools out there for Instagram who show you who you are following and if they are following you back. It is very important to check those stats and trim your followers every once in a while.
Use Hashtags to save your life! Using hashtags will make you, your brand and your posts more visible. Hashtags are a great way to increase brand visibility. However, make sure you use the correct hashtag or one that are appropriate to your brand or post. Also, make sure you are using the popular hashtag for the according days of the week. I.e. #MotivationMondays, #TBT (Throw Back Thursdays), #WCW (Women Crush Wednesdays), FBF (Follow Back Fridays) & #TGIF (Thank God it’s Friday). Make sure to create custom hashtags for your brand!
